Judy Kaplan, is the owner and publisher of the Empower Woman Publications. She began this endeavor in October of 2003, with a purpose that emanated out of her own life experience.
Judy began her career on Wall Street as a statistical stock analyst after earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from the Ohio State University. Upon getting married and moving to the Chicagoland area, she worked at Motorola as project manager in the International Finance Department. In 1977, she and her former husband, Mark, established a residential real estate company. The company ultimately grew into a real estate sales, construction, interior design and project development organization which built six major residential and commercial developments and hundreds of new homes and office buildings over a twenty year time period.
Interested in furthering her education after experiencing some personal life challenges within her marriage, Judy attended The Family Institute at Northwestern University for graduate study in 1994. There she earned a Master's Degree in Individual, Marriage and Family Therapy. Upon completion in 1996, she established a psychotherapy practice in Barrington, Illinois, that she still maintains today.
While assisting individuals and families with many of the same issues that she faced herself and included a common theme among them, she sought a way to reach people on a broader scale to address these issues common to men and women. Recognizing that as a single mental health professional she could only offer assistance to one person or family at a time, she yearned to find a way to reach and assist more people, and women especially, with the stresses life presents. With a vision and great passion Judy was able to develop the conceptual ideas that are now represented within the community as highly respected and well received publications that help and empower women. Originally created to help provide guidance, insight and support for women in the area of relationships, family and midlife, the publications grew to encompass all of the life challenges that women face on a regular basis.
Beginning as a one woman operation with the publishing of Chicago Suburban Woman Newspaper in January of 2004, Empower Woman Publications has grown in 4 years to an organization of 12 people producing 4 media publications, Suburban Woman North Shore, City Woman Chicago, Suburban Woman Near West and Empower Woman Online. Initially, Judy handled all firm positions, learning the publishing business from the ground floor up. From sales to accounting and from distributing to editing, Judy worked hard and diligently to create a presence in the market place for her publication.
Our team now includes a Managing Director, Director of Advertising Sales, an Art Director, an Executive Office Manager, multiple full time marketing consultants, a Distribution Manager, a Distribution Coordinator and multiple part-time distributors and data and clerical associates.
In the coming issues and year, Empower Woman Publications is looking forward to continuing to further enhance the company's potential. From improving web medias, to expanding readership, to exploring new geographic markets, to offering improved design and to streamlining services to our clients, our goal is to continue to passionately pursue new avenues of growth, efficiency and development for our clients and for our readers.
